In the world we live in even cities brag about never sleeping. We all wish we could sleep just five more minutes and those minutes turn into thirty minutes or more until your late for school or work. This life is tiring. Everyday you get up and got to go to school or work, you deal with the anxiety and drama that may come with that day, and to top it all off you probably go to bed super late just to wake up early and tired the next morning. This may not be you. You may actually go to bed at a decent time and be a great morning person who goes after the day. Either way it can still be tiring, you still deal with the anxiety and the constant feeling of having to push through. You may have people depending on you and you have to get something done. In these moments it feels like you have jet lag or what I like call, ' life lag" . You feel tired all day and it may shut down your day. A hectic life can lead to the feeling of if you had just drove for twelve hours. What do we do in these moments? I have become very tired through fighting the battle of depression and anxiety and my answer for rest seems to all be quick fixes and they seem to constantly be changing. One fix for being tired and worn down that never changes is the rest found in God. I know that sounds like such a preacher kid's answer but if it's true it's true whether it comes from me or a priest or a homeless person. How do we find rest in God? Something that can tire us out the most is our anxieties, fears, and battles. When we think of the verse that says, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." (Isaiah 41:10) you may think of fear like something scary as in walking down a dark alley but this could be the fear of not being good enough, the fear of not having enough time, and it could even be the feeling of anxiety because anxiety can just be an irrational feeling of fear. This verse reminds us that through our day and through our life, God is there to pick us up and give us rest. The things that tire us the most like fear and anxiety, through the day are things that God says He will give us rest from if we trust in Him. Fear and anxiety tire us mentally and physically but God will strengthen our minds and give us a peace to live with.
Exodus 33:14
"The Lord replied, My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
Mathew 11:28
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
2nd Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Isaiah 12:2
Behold God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
Today is Easter. The day when we celebrate Jesus conquering death by rising again. If you're like me, you can go numb to the power in that statement. To help, I think of it this way: The Bible says that God is our father. Our Father in Heaven sent His Son, Jesus, to die. Jesus was beaten, mocked, spit on, ridiculed, and then given a crown of long sharp thorns that were beaten into his head. Prior to that, He was under such extreme stress since He knew that all of that was coming that hematidrosis set in. That is when blood vessels rupture in the sweat glands causing Jesus to sweat blood. He went through all of that emotional and physical pain because He loved us to the point of death. If you have heard anyone talk about how they would die for someone because of there love for them, Jesus already did that even though we don't always show Him love in return; Even though the ones He died to save included those who killed Him. That death included whips digging into His back, bei...
The question that we all ask ourselves at some point in our lives is, “what is love?” Is it, doing things for others, is it seeming to enjoy being with someone more than just as friends. Is it a sacrifice? Is it 50-50 I do something for you, you do something for me. Is it blind? There are a lot of views and opinions on what love could be and what it isn’t. I think that it’s an important question to be answered especially if we are called to love others. I figure the best way to find the answer to that is to ask love itself. 1 John 4:8 says that “God is love.” Now we have added to the question of “what is love”, “who is God?” if we learn more about God we learn more about how to love. The Bible says that God is our Father in Heaven, so is a father's love for their child the perfect love? For some that would make love very difficult and no father-child relationship is the same or perfect so we can’t fully trust our world's imperfect example. I think the best answe...
Hey everybody! First off I would like to apologize for the very late post. I have been in the process of moving and to be honest have been trying to figure out things for myself. My depression has escalated in a way that I am still trying to figure out how to handle. Throughout all of it I am trying to find where my personality went after my anxiety stole it. One thing about depression, at least for me, is that everytime I start to understand it, it changes. It's really draining to be hit with the same thing over and over and yet everytime not know how to cope with it. That is why I haven't posted. I am trying to learn to cope with the depression that is all rooted within my own mind. I get confused on why I cant seem to catch a break in this and so I didnt know how to write about what I learned when I dont even know what to learn yet. It's hard to see the bright side or the knowledge that is to be learned when you are hit head on with all of the trials that come with o...
