Identity Through A Name
My name is Faith Michele Burden. I love my name. It reminds me of what I should live and strive for. My name means belief and trust in God. In Hebrew it means support and it comes from the latin root confidence. My mom gave me this name because I was her fifth child and she knew she needed belief, confidence, support, and trust in God to get her through raising so many children who all nagged for attention.
If my name was a song it would be Ceasefire by For King and Country. I chose this song because it talks about how we cannot help others through hate. I want to show God’s love to all in hopes that they will believe in Jesus Christ as their savior. The song brings out a thought of peace instead of strife. We should stop pointing fingers and learn to love.If my name was a song, I would want the message given in that song to be heard every time someone asks my name.
If my name was a car it would be an old classic jeep or truck. I would want it to be a classic because it is something unique and memorable. When you are driving and you see an old classic, you look in wonder and will tell others about it. I would hope that I am memorable and unique in a way that I stand out. I would not want it for attention but for letting people hear the Gospel.
If my name was represented by something, I would want it to be a very strong metal. I would choose that because I want to be strong and useful. Strong metals are used for support in buildings and bridges. I would want to support others and be used by God as a strong vessel for Him to work through. I could use that metal to reflect the love of Christ.
Summer would be my name if it was a season. I would hope it would be one that people look forward to and is sad when it is gone. Summer for me is a release and a time to relax. I would want others to feel that same feeling of peace around me. I would hope people would enjoy my being their and know that I am loved. I would want to know I wasn’t a burden…(not family wise.) I want to bring sunny days and good vibes. I would want my life to feel like a vacation that I could share with others.
The beach is where my name would run to. I think that the beach represents me. It can be the color of the ocean in many ways. I can be dark and cloudy. Some days, I am transparent. You can see the beauty, pain, good, and bad within me. Other days, I am bright, full of life, and I make people stop and think of what is in front of them. Everyone has thier different opinions of the ocean and sand. To me there is beauty in simplicity and complexity. It is water and sand meeting a sky. However, within that simple yet beautiful landscape, there is a complex side of how things fit together. It is filled with different environments, levels, and creatures. They all work together to make it what it is and yet underneath, there is a wonderland of color and life. It could be deep or shallow. Sometimes I am deep in my thoughts of what they mean and how they connect and some things pass over my head like a seagull gliding over water. There are new things to behold and an ever changing way of things at the beach. It produces new beauties everyday through shells and wonders. I would hope that I give back in the way the sea does. I want to trust God when the sea is raging and when it is calm and still. If I am encompassed in waves of grief, God will pull me out and rescue me in a way that He has already done so many times.
This writing was an assignment for my English class. We had to make a short story of our name and what it meant. We went through a lot of questions like, "if your name was a song what would it sing?" "If your name was a language what would it speak?" Like all other schoolwork, I thought it was a waste of time and I procrastinated getting it done. What I didn't know was that it opened my eyes to myself. I challenge you to sit down somewhere and in your time think of you and WHY you chose the answers for questions like the ones above or answered in the writing above. The main think to think of is why. Why would you choose summer as your name as a season? Think it through, it doesn't have to be poetic but I want you to think deeply on your answers. There is a Biblical challenge in what you write as well. Once you have written, how much of your why, is centered around God and furthering His Gospel? Who are you? A parent? A manager? A hard worker? Think of your answers to that question, is a believer in Christ the first thing on your list? If not, why is it not your main part of your identity if it is supposed to mean something to you? We all want to leave a legacy. Your name is part of your identity. If we change our names meaning into a song for example, would it be a legacy of drugs, alchohol, and not caring what other people think? Is that the kind of song you would choose or did you choose a song that sang about God and His goodness. If someone asks your name, do you want that song to play no matter who you are around? God should take part as the biggest and most noticeable part of our identity. We are a product of Gods image, love, and creation. Stay true to yourself and your true identity in Jesus Christ our Savior.
Romans 15:
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
1Corinthians 6:17
But whoever is united with the Lord is one with Him in spirit.
Genesis 1:27
So God created Mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.
1 Corinthians 12:27
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
Please listen to these songs carefully and apply them to your identity:
