Back To our Roots

In basketball, to start learning how to be a great player, you have to first learn the basic fundamentals. As you learn the fundamentals, you then add onto it to grow your skill set. Sometimes, if you get off, you have to go back to those fundamentals. I had to take a year off of basketball due to a ganglion cyst in my wrist making it painful to play. I got down knowing that I had missed a big part of skillset growth. I started practicing again recently since my cyst has not hurt as bad lately. I knew that after the long break, I had to start from the beginning. I used to think it got a little boring because I knew how to do it and could do it pretty well so I wanted to skip the fundamentals. However, I was left with less skill in shooting and dribbling. Once I realized how much the fundamentals helped me to grow as a player, I enjoyed them so much more, knowing that I was getting better and getting stronger. You may be wondering what this has to do anything. Well, think of life. Life is like a game, we are the players, obstacles are the defense, and Jesus is our substitute. Life is a skilled game, you've got to pay attention and learn from the obstacles. To start, we have to learn the fundamental truths of the game. First, God created the players and the game. He is the ref and the coach. Second, The Bible is our playbook. It tells us what plays to make, what to do in different situations, how to act, and what it's for. A big rule in basketball if you want to get better, is to be coachable! Don't have too much pride or even fear to try your best and listen to the coach's guidance because the coach is on your side. We have to let God show us the guidance it takes to win in the game of life. Sometimes we will get down but there are comebacks! The game of life is tiring, joyful, fun, saddening, and so much more, but we do it for the Coach because He gave it all up to lead us. We can't win on our own. We need a sub. God sent His son Jesus to take our place, be our substitute, and pay the debt of sin. He rose again to give us new life. Once you have believed, you have eternal life and the Holy Spirit is within you. Now the game has changed. We have help through the Holy Spirit guiding us and our eternal life making it so that we never have to give up. We want to encourage our team of fellow believers, through sharing the Gospel and spreading God's love to encourage and give hope in the times that maybe someone is down on the scoreboard and the devil is hitting threes. We can help give them the strength to come back and win the game! Get on God's team! The best coach! Have your home court be in Heaven's court!

Verses:

John 3:16-
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Ephesians 2:8-9-

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Galatians 4:6-
Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”

Romans 8:15-
For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”

"Abba" in Greek means "daddy".
